One Tasty Tuesday

Why hello there. Thanks for visiting 2 Poor Foodies LA. I’m going to get right into it, and kick things off with one of the better eating experiences I’ve had recently. It’s been weeks since we went on a girl’s night out to the Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica, and the menu is no longer clear in my mind, but oh, how the flavors of that night still linger. And I mean that in a good way.

Normally, dinner at the upscale Viceroy would not quite be within my price range, with entrees at Whist restaurant being upwards of $20.  But when Andrea learned of their “Taste of Tuesday” $5 menu for cocktails and food items, and told me about it, we were sold. Our next Tuesday night was spoken for.

The dishes were small in size, but big on flavor. Between four of us, we shared braised pork sliders, chicken skewers, and a skirt steak dish. The chick-on-a-stick was so good we ordered two. It was served alongside a pineapple chutney-like concoction that I could not have enough of.  The sliders were equally yummy. The winner of the night for me, though, was the steak. Granted, it was from the slightly-more-than-5-dollar menu ($8 or $10, I can’t remember). But it was tender and nicely flavored, and enough reason for me to want to come back.

Matched with a (couple orders of) white wine sangria – refreshing and perfect for a summer evening  - and classy poolside atmosphere, complete with a DJ spinning chill-out music, our overall eating experience was pretty great. It was like being in (a very swanky, L.A. version of) the Caribbean. Sure, it’s not really a bang for your buck, portion-wise (I can’t emphasize enough that they were small). But if you’re like me, and appreciate a chance to try great food at a price that’s actually doable, this would be a good opportunity for you.

Don’t take my word for it, check it out. “A Taste of Tuesday” at the Viceroy is going on until Labor Day, which means there are only a couple Tuesdays left, so go soon!
